Maryland Title Transfer.
Done Right. Done Today.
Private sales, gifts, inheritances, divorce splits, lien releases — every title transfer situation handled by our expert team in a single visit.
We handle every type of title transfer
Private sale
Buying or selling a car from a private seller? We handle the Maryland title transfer paperwork so both parties are protected.
Gift to family
Gifting a vehicle to a family member? Maryland has specific exemptions. We file the right forms and apply any tax exemptions you qualify for.
Inheritance / estate
Transferring a vehicle from a deceased owner's estate? We navigate the probate documentation and MVA requirements with care.
Divorce or name change
Removing a name from a joint title after divorce or a legal name change is more nuanced than most people expect. We get it done right.
Title-only (non-drivable)
Selling a parts car, salvage vehicle, or car going into storage? Title-only transfers without registration have a separate process we know well.
Lien release
Paid off your loan? A lien release must be processed before you have clear title. We coordinate the documentation and update the title.
From paperwork to clear title
Gather your documents
Bring your signed title (or bill of sale), valid ID, and proof of insurance. Not sure what you need? Call us first.
We review everything
Our team checks for common errors that would cause an MVA rejection — signatures in the wrong place, missing odometer disclosure, etc.
We file with the MVA
We complete and submit all required forms — title application, excise tax payment, registration (if applicable).
Done — same visit
Walk out with your title receipt, new registration (if included), and the paperwork trail to protect your ownership.
Common questions
How much is the Maryland title transfer fee?
Maryland charges a $100 title fee plus excise tax (6% of vehicle sale price or NADA value, whichever is higher). Gifts between qualifying family members may be exempt from excise tax. Our service fee is in addition to state fees.
Do I need a Maryland address to transfer a title here?
Yes — the new owner must be a Maryland resident (or business) to register the vehicle in Maryland. Out-of-state buyers can do a title-only transfer.
What if the title has an error or missing signature?
We catch these before submitting. Common issues: wrong date, missing odometer reading, lien not released. We'll tell you exactly what to fix before we file.
Can I transfer a title without registration?
Yes — title-only transfers are available for non-drivable vehicles, parts cars, out-of-state buyers, and salvage. There's a separate process and we handle both.
